About the Artist
Raya Duryea is a ceramic artist based in Fort Collins, Colorado. She first began working with clay in 2018 during her sophomore year of college. While studying biology at the time, she spent much of her free time in the pottery studio, teaching herself how to throw on the wheel and developing a deep connection to the process. What began as a creative escape quickly grew into a dedicated practice rooted in patience, repetition, and thoughtful making.
Today, the majority of Raya’s work is wheel-thrown, with each piece shaped by hand and created to be both functional and enduring. In 2021, she founded Sandstone Ceramics and throughout the years she has continued to refine her craft and explore forms that feel intentional and timeless. Her work is inspired by minimal design, elegant silhouettes, muted colors, and soft neutral palettes, pieces made slowly and with care, meant to bring warmth and presence into everyday rituals.
At the heart of Raya’s practice is a belief in the quiet power of handmade objects. Made with intention, these pieces carry a presence that mass-produced goods often lack, transforming simple moments, like a morning cup of coffee or setting the table, into grounding, personal rituals. In a world shaped by speed, productivity, and convenience, Raya sees handmade work as a meaningful alternative. By choosing objects made by hand, she hopes to offer something more human and lasting, pieces that feel personal, lived-in, and far from generic, allowing everyday life to be surrounded by things that are truly special.
